What people think...

I think the most important thing I took from your classes was the support of being with other women all celebrating the gift of pregnancy and the idea that birth is a natural process and not something to be scared of, before I was pregnant I was always terrified of the pain of childbirth and could never imagine being able to cope (and I ended up having a ventouse delivery with no pain relief!!!!) but active birth convinced me that my body is designed to give birth and I should trust it to do so. (Michelle Oct 2007)

I found that attending the active birth classes was very reassuring as I approached my due date. I was able to ask all of my ‘silly questions’ in such a friendly setting and learnt a few relaxation and yoga techniques that really helped with my labour (which unfortunately was rather long!). I am still in touch with some of the girls now as we get to grips with being Mums. (Claire Sept 2007)

I returned home from work as a Reflexologist at 7pm .( I had been giving an ante-natal treatment to a client who was overdue and had been working on inducing the labour).By 9pm I started to feel the rhythmic waves of labour . My due date was a week away, Both my daughters had arrived 5 days past their due date so I had felt I still had some time on my side ! I went into hospital, as planned at 10pm and labour was progressing well. Everyone had said that my third baby would just ' pop out ' and this seemed to be the case until everything slowed down to a stop in the early hours. For a long time we waited, walked and tried to push but nothing seemed to help. The midwives were terrific and gave me the time I needed although we started to discuss getting a second opinion from the registrar . This gave me the wake up call I needed !
I remembered Lucy advising on the natural, powerful position of squatting in labour and, with my husband holding my forearms over the bed, I started to bear down with the strongest squats I could muster. This did the trick, contractions started to become more productive again and my beautiful baby girl was delivered shortly afterwards. I am so grateful for that piece of advice - I had been scared of that position in previous births but it was just what I needed at that time . (Sam July 2007)

'Even though I was having an elective caesarean I loved going to Lucy's classes as she was so attentive to everyone's individual needs and concerns about this sacred time' (Mickey Dec 2007)
